This allows non-citizen investors to obtain a Dominican citizenship in return for investing in the country\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s\u00c2\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/cbiu.gov.dm\/investment-options\/economic-diversification-fund\/\">Economic Diversification Fund<\/a>, or the purchase of\u00c2\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/simplydev.co\/dominica\/investment-options\/real-estate\/\">pre-approved real estate<\/a>. In order for the Programme to have a legal basis, it is enshrined within various laws of Dominica. Here we take a look at the relevant legislation.<\/p>\n<h2>The Constitution of the Commonwealth of Dominica<\/h2>\n<p>Dominica\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s CBI Programme is framed within Section 101 of the\u00c2\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/cbiu.gov.dm\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/The-Constitution-of-the-Commonwealth-of-Dominica.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Constitution of the Commonwealth of Dominica<\/a>. This mandates that Parliament can allow the \u00e2\u20ac\u0153acquisition of citizenship of Dominica by persons who are not eligible or who are no longer eligible to become citizens of Dominica\u00e2\u20ac\u009d.<\/p>\n<h2>Commonwealth of Dominica Citizenship Act<\/h2>\n<p>The\u00c2\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/cbiu.gov.dm\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/Commonwealth-of-Dominica-Citizenship-Act.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Commonwealth of Dominica Citizenship Act<\/a>\u00c2\u00a0was made part of Dominican law in 1978, and addressed the matter of acquiring citizenship of the country. It outlined in sections 8 and 9 that individuals who participated in the CBI Programmes would be granted a naturalisation certificate in this scenario.<\/p>\n<h2>The Commonwealth of Dominica Citizenship by Investment Regulations<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cbiu.gov.dm\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/SRO-No.-8-of-2024.-Commonwealth-of-Dominica-Citizenship-By-Investment-AmdNo.2-Reg.-2024-1-1.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Commonwealth of Dominica Citizenship by Investment Regulations<\/a>\u00c2\u00a0(the 2024 Regulations) were gazetted on 28 June 2024 and came into effect immediately. The 2024 Regulations repeal the existing regulations and amendments.
